The announcement came from a live television interview with BBC News, one of the largest broadcasting corporations in Britain. Towards the end of the interview, Notch was asked ‘where he was going next,’ to which he responded as follows:

How vague!

On Twitter, Notch also teased the game twice in the last week, again only referring to it as the “space game.” It seems that this project, more than the other two has captured his attention and motivation.

You can check out the entire interview on YouTube here, though the quality of the video is pretty choppy. Notch was on the news show to talk about his BAFTA Award, and acted in a very casual manner in regard to announcing his new plans. To be fair, he had already said three new games would be announced in 2012, so we can mark one of them off the calendar.

“Screw it, I know I’m working on two projects already, but I’ll start prototyping the space game now.” - March 18.

Having already announced that Mojang employee Jeb would be taking over the main duties of Minecraft last December, it should be no surprise that Notch is already thinking so far ahead about what frontiers he could possibly push. With both Scrolls and Minecraft occupying the ‘swords and stone’ front, it would certainly be neat to see what he can do in the realm of space - especially considering his graphical tastes (read: pixel art).

Of course, we’ve still got two more of his ’new projects’ to think about it, and we’re certainly excited to see where they can take us. That is, of course, when Notch reveals what exactly they are - we’ll keep you posted.

What do you think about Notch developing a space game? Do you have any recommendations on what he should do next?
