Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, which Hideo Kojima has confirmed is not Project Ogre, will feature a full day/night cycle. No mere aesthetic concern, the presence or lack of daylight will have a palpable impact on the game’s world. As an example, Kojima revealed to Eurogamer that enemy troop patterns will be different depending on the time of day. In his opinion, that will give Ground Zeroes some solid replay value. As for what else might be affected by the game’s day/night cycle, Kojima isn’t saying just yet - but imagine how the prison camp infiltration shown in the gorgeous Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes gameplay trailer would be different if it had taken place in the stark light of day.

Take a look at these high-resolution screenshots from the Ground Zeroes demo. Can you imagine these scenes in broad daylight?

Although the Ground Zeroes gameplay demo was rendered on PC, Kojima claims that the finished game will closely resemble the recorded footage. If Kojima Productions is able to deliver on that promise, Ground Zeroes just might be the most graphically impressive game ever to appear on the current-gen consoles - and that’s taking into consideration contenders like Assassin’s Creed 3 and The Last of Us. Those extraordinary visuals must play a part in necessitating the loading screens that players will encounter as they explore Ground Zeroes’ open-world. Then again, with graphics like these, who’s going to care about the occasional loading screen?

Ranters, are you put off knowing that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will have loading screens? What do you think some of the other implications of the game’s day/night cycle could be? Let us know in the comments below.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is currently in development for PS3 and Xbox 360.
