In an interview with 4Gamer (translated by DualShockers), Kojima expressed his desire to buckle down after seeing the other titles presented at E3, specifically Ubisoft’s The Division, an upcoming Tom Clancy shooter that incorporates many MMO aspects, including an open world – check out our preview for more on this title.

Kojima is working with a number of similar elements, such as an open world, which will directly affect the mechanic the series is best known for, stealth, in a number of ways, making it “very realistic”.

Kojima also notes Metal Gear Solid V’s dynamic weather and time, which makes them important variables to consider when playing the game. This also gives gamers “a million of different ways” to play the game.

I think the definition of “real stealth simulator” is appropriate. Previously when the game was on rails players knew what to expect, because designers just put an explosion there, a collapsing wall there…It was like a haunted house.

Kojima knows there is a large market for the Metal Gear series in the United States, but he’d prefer to spread its popularity on a global scale and “take on the world.” – even boasting that Metal Gear Solid V’s V is for victory. He’s doing this by attending events like E3, taking notes from western developers like Ubisoft and even hiring a high-profile American actor like Keifer Sutherland to voice Snake.

While we understand the positive aspects of the West’s influence on gaming, we hope that Kojima continues to stick to his own unique ideals and visions. It’s why we love his games, after all, because they aren’t entirely like ours.

Metal Gear Solid 5 currently has no release date but is slated for the Ps3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Ps4 sometime in 2014.
