Some might argue that the Extended Cut DLC was the first, but as we all know, that was more in response to fan outcry over an unresolved series of endings than an intended piece of additional content. Leviathan, however, plans to be a completely original adventure that takes players further into the world of the Reapers.

The titular Leviathan, as revealed by EA, is a fabled ship whose mysteries can only be solved through further exploration of the Reapers, as the player set off on a galaxy-charting adventure. Details, unfortunately, were pretty slim coming out of the showcase, but we do know that Leviathan should be out by the end of summer.

Much in the same way that From Ashes gave players a look at the back-story of the Protheans before the Reapers wiped them out, we imagine Leviathan will help players better understand that not all Reapers are of ill intent. We do know that the story runs concurrent to that of Mass Effect 3, meaning the DLC will most likely be its own independent experience.

Leviathan will also feature several new planets to explore, but hopefully since the DLC is Reaper-focused, we won’t have to worry about that annoying Reaper awareness feature.

Now that we know more about Leviathan, the question remains whether or not this will be the last piece of DLC released for Mass Effect 3. Unlike ME 2, three’s offerings have leaned towards the multiplayer side of the equation, something the second game needn’t worry about. Due to the finite nature of the game’s ending(s), it’s understandable, but BioWare still promised that gamers would see more of Commander Shepard’s story.

Are you excited for more single player DLC for Mass Effect 3? What do you hope Leviathan reveals about the Reapers?
