The promise of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Pikmin 3 later this year are definitely appealing, but there’s still a need for more content on the Wii U. That’s why it’s worth noting that during today’s Nintendo investor briefing, and sequential press release, the Big N confirmed that more brand name content would be hitting its latest console in the form of a new Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros. title.
In a previous Nintendo Direct, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced that his company planned on having playable builds of Mario Kart and a 3D Mario title for Wii U at this year’s E3, but no one was sure when either title would be arriving at retailers. Now that fans have a slightly better idea of the types of content that’ll be available by this year’s end, however, it looks as if the console’s library is finally hitting its stride.
There are still a number of previously announced titles that are missing in action, Super Smash Bros. 4 standing out as a significant one, but there are likely still a few surprises up Ninty’s sleeve for this year’s E3. The real question is whether or not early adopters can expect more before the Holiday season rears its head, but (given the spectacular showing the 3DS only just had) it’s apparent that the company has no problem keeping secrets.
